Фильм "Август" смотрела  перед поездкой в Москву ! Сам сюжет особенно не впечатлил, но и не разочаровал. Всё ясно, как белый день)))Преуспевающая компания, созданная золотым мальчиком, через пять месяцев теряет свои позиции и пытается удержаться на плаву. На какую жертву прийдется пойти Джошу ради семьи и ради  сохранения компании,  и какими амбициями поступиться- узнаете из фильма, не хочу спойлерить))) Руководитель компании в исполнении Джоша -личность неординарная, даже вызывающая! Стиль общения в компании не совсем привычен , но,наверно, у них так принято-хамить друг другу и посылать всех куда подальше)))
Очень понравились: 1. Сцена с Боуи - Джош сыграл замечательно, весь трагизм ситуации и все переживания понятны без слов!
                                2. Выступление Джоша перед сотрудниками компании и журналистами- заслуженные аплодисменты)))
                                3. Финальная игра с братом
ну и я была б не я , если бы не написала о сцене, когда Джош занимается любовью с Наоми первый раз нам показали Джоша именно в этот момент)))тут хочется поговорить)))обсудить))) но боюсь,меня забанят....
Об одном напишу- какие муки написаны у него на лице после этой сцены- вы обратили внимание? и как это можно обьяснить? Наталка предположила, что ему,возможно, стыдно...

С этим я согласна на 100% и лучше не напишу!!!
И ,   я даже не буду спорить с вами    -  Джош в фильме очень очень очень красив     

Кстати гуляя по Москве в переходе увидела на самом видном месте диск с фильмом !

Naomie Harris: I really did genuinely impressed by working with Josh (Hartnett). With most actors, when you’re not on screen and you’re working with your fellow actor, you don’t give 100 percent. It’s not because you’re necessarily being selfish about it. Especially after a big emotional scene, there’s only so much emotional reserve that you have. If you cry, dramatically when the camera goes off on someone else, you don’t have much to give because you’ve been through much emotionally. Normally, that’s the way you find it. But Josh was so incredibly generous and giving that no matter whether the camera was on me or him, he always gave 100 percent.

SheKnows: Josh’s got this quiet power that resonates especially through this film.

early as bad as movies that insist on telling audiences how to feel, are those that spell everything out about what to think. But there's a fine line between too much information and not enough, and it's the skillful director who knows just how to navigate in between.

The dot com drama August is just that sort of sketchy fare. The exemplary ensemble cast counting Josh Hartnett, Naomie Harris, Robin Tunney, Rip Torn and David Bowie give it their all with bruising intensity. But it's just not enough to define this outside-looking-in elusive story.

Josh Hartnett is Tom Sterling in August, a brash and ruthless young hipster dot com turk. He's built a hot property Manhattan Internet company that was hatched as a wild idea in a local strip club, over a game of old-school pinball, no less.

Minutes later, we're transported to an upscale downtown office where Tom is bossing around lots of idle young employees, strange slackers who seem to be nearly dying of boredom. It eventually sorta becomes apparent that this outfit may be a slick front for, well, nothing. But the cash keeps flowing in anyway from gullible investors, who may in fact know as little as we do.

There's also a procession of anger mismanagement episodes, as Tom roams around the city furiously butting heads with friends, foes, family and business rivals alike. And in between he's behaving just plain rude to assorted unbelievably receptive women, one of them a glutton-for-punishment old flame (Naomie Harris) whom he manages to re-con into bed, before she wises up all over again.

There is comeuppance in all this endless rat race rage, when David Bowie shows up as an avenging dot com designer suited dandy entrepreneur. And he reads Tom the riot act, formulated in fancy hostile takeover legal jargon.

We're supposed to infer from all of the above, that the entire proceedings in August telegraphed on fast forward by director Austin Chick, are a prelude, or prequel conceit, to the events of 9/11. Or at least I detected as much from that elegant cheat sheet known as press notes. For me, this didn't register at all. Though there might be some connection to be drawn, between a phantom company and a fairly inscrutable story.

August DVD Review 
I knew nothing about this movie, or the incident on which it's based, before I went into this movie. What I noticed right off was the odd cast the movie boasts. Josh Hartnett, Rip Torn, David Bowie...it's quite the random assortment of talent. More than anything else, this intrigued me enough to give the film a try. The story is a little like Pirates of Silicon Valley for the dot-com generation, only it focuses on one website as it tries to stay afloat when the bottom falls out of the stock market in August 2001.

Josh Hartnett is given the unenviable task of carrying the movie on his back and unfortunately he's not up to the task. It's not a question of his talent, as he's an actor I have grown to like over the years. He seems bored and unmotivated. There are a few scenes when instead of emoting, his character merely says "fuck" a lot. This grew irritating and it made me wonder why he took the role to begin with.

The rest of the cast is many and varied. Rip Torn usually brings a movie down, but luckily he's not in the movie for very long. Naomie Harris looks completely different than her famous Pirates of the Carribbean role but provides a capable, if unspectacular performance. The remainder of the cast (Chiqrui, Scott, Tunney) are just spot fillers and don't add anything to the show.

Another of the movie's problems is the pacing. The entire thing is the slow demise of a company and a man's life who runs it. It ends up being very slow and boring and there are not many moments when the movie begins to show any signs of life. Any good moments this movie contains are scattered throughout the muddled plot and this is unfortunate.

That's not to say the movie is all bad. There are some bright spots here and there and Josh Hartnett does show glimpses of what he can do. It's got a decent script with some nice moments of plot and character development, the only problem is that there's no reason to care about the characters or the plot. The topic itself may be interesting for some, and there probably could be a good movie about it, but this one limps along until it's anticlimactic finish with meandering performances and cringe-worthy dialogue.

PORTSMOUTH - The New Hampshire Film Festival judges' panel is pleased to announce its roster of accepted films for what organizers expect to be the event's largest turnout to date, Oct. 16 – Oct. 19 in downtown Portsmouth.

“The breadth and quality of independent films that we have been so fortunate to receive has transcended our previous experience and our wildest hopes,” said NHFF programming director Chris Proulx. “I feel confident in saying that collectively, this will be our finest offering of films to date.”

NHFF set a record by drawing more than 600 submissions this year from independent filmmakers in New Hampshire, the U.S., and the globe. Headlining films include renowned thriller “Transsiberian,” starring Woody Harrelson and Ben Kingsley; documentary “A Lion in the House,” directed by NHFF artists-in-residence Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar; “August,” starring Josh Hartnett, and featuring David Bowie; “The Tiger's Tail,” directed by five-time Academy Award nominee John Boorman; and “The Unknown Woman,” from “Cinema Paradiso” Academy Award-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore. All accepted films include:
