Everydika, да..выглядит жутковато...

the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires

Variety - With production set to start in New Zealand next month, Niles says he's excited about the film, especially now that "Hard Candy" helmer David Slade has signed on to direct and Josh Hartnett is onboard to star. Pic is scheduled for release Oct. 19 ...

Съемки обещают закончить к 19 октября... Затянутый отпуск будет у Джошки :)

Ходят слухи, что жену Джоша будет играть Мелиса Джордж.

MelissaGeorge.co.uk reports that Melissa George, former "Alias" star and who played Kathy Lutz in last year's The Amityville Horror, will star opposite Josh Hartnett in Sony's 30 Days of Night. The film is based on the Steve Niles graphic novel.

In a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff (Hartnett) and Deputy (George), a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.

David Slade directs the horror film, produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. The studio is eyeing an October 19, 2007 release.

February 17, 2005: According to Steve Niles, it's still early days on the 30 Days of Night movie. Apparently, Stuart Beattie has just turned in a final draft of the script (that had no small amount of input from Niles himself). May 6, 2004: Steve Niles, creator of 30 Days of Night, told Comics Continuum that Stuart Beattie, a writer of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, has been brought aboard to do a rewrite on his screenplay for a film.

March 2, 2004: The Anchorage Press has a great article about Steve Niles' 30 Days of Night comics and the upcoming film. Here's a few clips which talk about the status of the big screen project...

Sam Raimi of Spider-Man fame has plans to produce the film version of 30 Days of Night. Raimi, a big a horror flick fan, proved his chops in the genre when he created the classic, campy Evil Dead. Around the time he was directing Spider-Man, Raimi launched Ghost House, a production company strictly dedicated to producing scary movies. Filming of 30 Days of Night is at least a year away, probably longer, said Sue Binder, business manager of Ghost House. The production company plans to release three other movies before 30 Days of Night, she said. Meantime, Sony-owned Columbia Pictures is in the process of acquiring a script after passing on a screenplay Niles wrote last year. Niles said he's heard one of Sony's big guns is rewriting his script.

In a press release, Joe Drake, an entertainment industry veteran, said Raimi's 30 Days of Night is on track to hitting the big screen. Drake heads Senator International, which does financing, production and distribution of feature films. He said Columbia Pictures plans to handle 30 Days of Night's North American distribution. "With Columbia committed to moving this picture forward, we have all the elements in place to produce an original horror classic," Drake said. A spokesman for Drake's company said the film might be shot in Alaska, although it's too early to tell.

Очень интересная статья о самой книге комиксов (осторожно, могут быть спойлеры):

30 Days of Night was initially a miniseries of horror comics written by Steve Niles, illustrated by Ben Templesmith and published by IDW Publishing in 2002. All three parties co-own the property. The series takes place in Barrow, Alaska, which is so far north that during the winter the sun does not rise for 30 days. The premise of the series is that vampires (who are harmed by the sun) move to Barrow and terrorize the area. The series was a break out success story for Steve Niles, whose previous works had received relatively little attention. It was also the first major length work for co-creator Ben Templesmith, who found the property to be a career defining moment. 30 Days of Night is accredited by some as the cause of an increase in the popularity of vampire comics, though Steve Niles denies these claims, stating that the only groundbreaking aspect of his comic books is his passion for the horror genre.

30 Days of Night was a three issue mini-series that jump-started the careers of writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith in which vampires flock to a small town in Alaska where the sun sets for 30 days, allowing them to feed without the burden of sleep to avoid lethal sunlight. When the vampire elder Vicente learns of this plan, he travels to Barrow to end the feeding, in order to preserve the secrecy of vampires. Because of the cold, the vampires' senses are weakened and a few of the town's residents are able to hide. One such resident is sheriff Eben Olemaun, who saves the town by injecting vampire blood into his veins. He uses his enhanced strength to fight Vicente, saving the lives of the few remaining townspeople, including his wife Stella. Suffering the same weakness as all vampires, Eben dies with the sunrise.

Dark Days was the follow-up to 30 Days of Night, featuring the original creative team. Beginning in June of 2003, this series featured the exploits of Stella Olemaun after surviving the attack on Barrow in the original series. After publishing an account of the attack, Stella draws the attention of the Los Angeles vampire population, as well as the lover of Vicente, the head vampire from the original series. Learning that there may be a way to bring back her former husband Eben, Stella strikes a deal with vampire Dane, who seeks revenge for the murder of his mentor by Vicente. The two form a brief romantic relationship. Stella exchanges proof of the existence of vampires for her husband's remains, in the hope of bringing him back from the dead. This series also serves as an introduction to the vampiric FBI agent, Norris.

Annual 2004 was a 48 page one-shot released in January 2004 by regular 30 Days of Night publisher IDW. The issue features four short stories, each written by Steve Niles but featuring different illustrators. The first, "The Book Club," is illustrated by regular 30 Days of Night artist Ben Templesmith. It involves a suburban book club's discussion of Stella Olemaun's book (also titled 30 Days of Night). This arouses suspicion about a shut-in neighbor, leading to his murder by the unruly book club. The second story, "The Hand That Feeds" is illustrated by Szymon Kudranski and features Dane seeking a hand transplant from an eccentric doctor. "Agent Norris: MIA" features the pencils of Brandon Hovet, and depicts agent Norris' transformation from a "scout" or "bug eater" to a full-blown vampire. The final tale, "The Trapper," is illustrated by Josh Medors. This story introduces John Ikos, a Barrow resident turned vampire hunter (and a main character in later series).

30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow is another sequel to the original series by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. Return to Barrow features Brian Kitka, the brother of a victim of the attack on Barrow in the original mini-series. Kitka becomes Barrow's new sheriff after moving there with his son to investigate his brother's demise. Kitka's skepticism about the claims of a vampire attack disappears when he discovers his deceased brother's journal, which includes a full account of the attack. He finds himself protecting the town along with John Ikos. This story features the return of several characters from the previous series.

30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales marked the first time a writer other than Niles would work on the series. Throughout the eight issues of Bloodsucker Tales, two stories were told. The first, Dead Billy Dead was written by Steve Niles and illustrated by Kody Chamberlain. This serialized story featured a young man named Billy who was bitten by, and turned into a vampire and later kidnapped, along with his girlfriend Maggie by a vampire-obsessed scientist. Meanwhile Goodis, a police officer whom Maggie had called when approached by the vampiric Billy, discovers Stella Olemaun's book. The second story, Juarez or Lex Nova & The Case of the 400 Dead Mexican Girls, was written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by 30 Days of Night veteran Ben Templesmith. This story depicted Lex Nova's investigation of the disappearance of hundreds of girls in Juarez, Mexico. A group of vampires called the Zero Family Circus arrives in Mexico at the same time, believing the deaths to be caused by an estranged vampire.

Annual 2005 was a 48 page single issue of 30 Days of Night released in December 2005 by IDW. It tells the story of John Ikos leaving Barrow and going to Los Angeles in search of Agent Norris. While in Los Angeles, John Ikos meets Billy (from the "Dead Billy Dead" story in Bloodsucker Tales) and Dale, and does battle with a gang of vampires going by the name The Night Crew lead by a vampire called Santana.

30 Days of Night: Dead Space After a self-imposed hiatus following the tragic events of the last shuttle mission, NASA prepares to launch the Icarus on a simple mission to help restore the nation's confidence in the space program. But their worst fears are realized when it's discovered that something has gotten aboard the shuttle, something ferocious, something with fangs and a taste for blood.

Blonde star sparkles for home crowd

4th November 2006, 6:15 WST

She’s beautiful, has acted opposite some of Hollywood’s most gorgeous men and is back in town for a whirlwind visit.

Melissa George, one of an expanding group of Australian blonde acting exports, jetted into Perth from the bloodthirsty set of her latest movie, 30 Days Of Night, to attend last night’s glamorous Linneys jewellery launch party.

The journey from her home town of Perth — where she is now unable to walk the streets without attracting attention — to the movieland of Los Angeles has seen George take on various film and television roles.

With a series of projects set to hit the big screen, George and her filmmaker husband Claudio Dabed fit right in on their celebrity-packed street. The couple live alongside Pamela Anderson and Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey’s Newlyweds mansion.

George’s leading men, including Clive Owen, Josh Hartnett and Alias’ Michael Vartan, have all left an impression on the actress.

“I get so silly, I get giddy,” George said of working with them. “I think my leading men have been so divine. Josh Hartnett is quite spectacular and such a great man. We get along beautifully. I just like that I’m getting jobs with really good actors — movie stars. He is the ultimate young man of Hollywood right now.”

Hartnett stars with George in 30 Days Of Night, a big-budget flick written by the Pirates of the Caribbean scriptwriter and produced by the director of Spider-Man.

Currently filming in New Zealand, the pair play husband and wife sheriffs whose town is invaded by vampires during a period of darkness. The thriller combines their love story with blood-sucking excitement.

While George leads a glamorous life, filming in snow was tough. “You’re frozen, you can’t work,” she said. “It’s so cold there’s no way you can act. I had to have hot water to melt my lips.”

While the actress, who recently graced the cover of Vogue, loves fashion and the glitz of photo shoots, it is filmmaking that is her true love.

“There is something about acting with all the crew, and the cameras, the sound people and 50 firemen on set putting out the buildings that are on fire and running with a snow machine and blizzard . . . there is something very special about having a movie made,” she said.

The calibre of the projects she is soon to release is sure to set George’s starmeter to super.
