French film backers have no respect: Uy
By Anthony S. Allada
The provincial governor of Compostela Valley has lambasted the French film outfits for shooting a movie in Mt. Diwata featuring an A-list Hollywood celebrity without properly notifying the local government unit.
"I am a bit dismayed over this international movie production who reportedly has a shooting in Mt. Diwata because they did not even call our attention here even as a sign of respect and a protocol to the local officials," he said.
More importantly, he added, there is a question of security.
"I am very much concern of their safety here. If ever something bad would happen to them while in my province it would surely affect our image as a developing tourist destination and a struggling international business alternative."
According to Uy, the provincial government only come to know of the entry of Canal and Central Film Productions personnel through the word of mouth and some media reports.
The film entitled " I come With The Rain" has the famous Hollywood actor Josh Harnett in the lead role and Anh Hung Tran as director. With a budget of $18 million, the movie is co-produced by French Canal+ and Central Films and is set to start filming later this month.
In the movie, Hartnett plays Kline, an ex-Los Angeles cop turned private detective who journeys to Asia in search of the missing son of a Chinese billionaire.
Harnett has already allegedly visited Mt. Diwalwal many times and was provided security by the 28th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Depot, Upper Ulip also in Monkayo.
With only a general idea of the plot, Uy said local government officials are also wary how the Diwalwal will be projected in the international audience. Diwalwal, especially the contentious 729-hectare Mt. Diwata, is a hotbed of violence since it was discovered to hold large deposits of gold.
"We must be informed of the manner by which Diwalwal will be projected in their script. It might be a damning or undesirable one of which we cannot permit although I would not speculate," he said.
Uy said foreigners must know how to coordinate with the local officials who are responsible for their safety while in the place.
"Their handlers must know the protocol, much less respect," he said.
Diwalwal has a population of roughly 40,000 people.
Last week, Harnett and company was reportedly in the place again staying in Pink House Lodging house in Upper Ulip, Monkayo.
