Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” premieres May 11, and to give viewers a taste of the creep-fest to come, the network has released a full-length trailer for the series, which makes its premiere at March’s South by Southwest festival.
The series, described a “frightening sexual thriller,” imagines some of literature’s most terrifying figures, including Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray, becoming embroiled in Victorian London. Created, written and executive produced by John Logan (“The Aviator,” “Gladiator”), the series also counts Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris among its executive producers.
Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear and Reeve Carney are among the series’ stars.

Sam Mendes's Penny Dreadful: Eva Green warns of dark world in teaser video

Penny Dreadful's new teaser sees the mysterious Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) warning the dashing Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) about the true terrors of the world.

"[There is] a half-world between what we know and what we fear," Vanessa Ives cryptically says in the clip. "[There's] a place in the shadows rarely seen, but deeply felt. Where some unfortunate souls are forced to live always."

Ethan Chandler replies: "That sounds like a warning."

"It's an invitation," Vanessa coyly answers.

The supporting cast for Penny Dreadful includes James Bond actor Timothy Dalton as an African adventurer, Billie Piper as a troubled Irish immigrant, and Harry Treadaway as Dr Frankenstein.

Penny Dreadful premieres on Showtime on May 11 in the US. UK channel Sky Atlantic is producing the series with Showtime.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Showtime has debuted the first full trailer for its psychosexual horror series "Penny Dreadful", unleashing the horror from the dark and gory show. It opens with Eva Green's Vanessa Ives extending an invitation to Josh Hartnett's Ethan Chandler to demimonde, "a half-world between what we know and what we fear," AceShowbiz said.

Without many dialogues, the video shows what demimonde is through the scenes, which offer a mix of violence and sex. Some creepy creatures from Gothic literature are also featured in it as Vanessa is seen being possessed in other scenes.

Created by John Logan ("The Aviator", "Hugo"), "Penny Dreadful" takes place in Victorian London and weaves together the classic origin stories of horror icons like Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Grey, and several characters from the novel Dracula.

Harry Treadaway will play Victor Frankenstein, Reeve Carney is cast as the immortal Dorian Gray, and Billie Piper stars as Brona Croft, an Irish immigrant seeking to escape her dark past.

Logan serves as executive producer alongside Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris. The new series is set to debut Sunday, May 11 at 10 P.M. ET/PT on Showtime.

“Tenía ganas de entrar en el mundo de la televisión”, explica J.A. Bayona en charla telefónica con FOTOGRAMAS desde un taxi londinense. El director de 'Lo Imposible' y 'El Orfanato' está en la capital inglesa entre reuniones y conversaciones, preparando su trabajo en la secuela de 'Guerra Mundial Z', que, explica, “está aún empezando su fase de guión”. Y con ganas de que se emita ya 'Penny Dreadful', su debut en la pequeña pantalla. La fecha prevista: el 11 de mayo en Showtime.

Un reparto de campanillas

Eva Green (que tiene a punto de estreno '300: El origen de un imperio') es la encargada de dar vida a la protagonista, formando parte de un trío de campanillas que completan Josh Hartnett ('Sin City') y Timothy Dalton (el James Bond de '007: Alta tensión'). “En la elección del cast hubo un consenso total. John Logan tenía mucho que decir, porque está detrás de cada episodio, pero valoramos mucho a cada actor, y de hecho hay alguna elección muy mía... La relación con los actores ha sido buenísima, en las dos direcciones. Incluso me decían que volviera a la serie”, relata divertido Bayona. Algo que la actriz Leticia Dolera, que tiene una breve aparición en uno de los episodios, también destaca: “La serie tiene una pinta espectacular, y todos los actores estaban encantados con Jota”.

La presencia de Dolera no es la única de nuestra cinematografía de la que 'Penny Dreadful' se beneficiará: el director de fotografía Xavi Giménez o el montador Bernat Vilaplana también están en los créditos de la serie de Showtime. Estos vínculos profesionales, ese buen entendimiento entre Bayona y sus colaboradores habituales, se traslada también al equipo creador de 'Penny Dreadful': John Logan es el guionista de 'Skyfall' y ya trabaja en el nuevo Bond, ambas dirigidas por Sam Mendes, productor ejecutivo de la serie.

Primera experiencia catódica de Logan y de Bayona (“era una de nuestras bromas recurrentes”), el director admite que ha tenido “una sensación liberadora al saber que la presión no está a tus espaldas. No se trataba de rodar una película, con la responsabilidad que ello conlleva. John es el creador, yo sólo tenía que ponerla en marcha. Y además tienes muchísimos medios para llevar a cabo la tarea, un nivel de producción al que normalmente es complicado acceder y que es una pasada, con grandes decorados, secuencias de masas en las calles de Dublín...”

¿Y es Bayona un seriéfilo de pro? “Pues no, yo consumo muy poca televisión. Sí veo mucho cine, pero no demasiadas series. Últimamente he visto 'The Walking Dead', pero poco más”
