Josh Hartnett Set To Play Lead In Scott Waugh’s “6 Below”

Josh Hartnett has been tapped to play former Olympic hockey player Eric LeMarque in the Scott Waugh-directed 6 BELOW. Madison Turner, Waugh’s assistant and former stuntman, penned the script.

Tucker Tooley, former president of Relativity Studios, will finance and produce the film under his Tooley Productions banner. Tom Lesinski of Sonar Entertainment will also produce along with Simon Swart and Brad Pilz of Rockpile Studios.

The film is based on the true survival story of LeMarque who got lost in a brutal storm while snowboarding. He survived eight days while stranded. All the while, he was battling drug addiction and self-destructive behavior. He managed to avoid freezing to death and was eventually rescued by the National Guard when they honed in on his MP3 player.

Hartnett currently stars as Ethan Chandler in the Showtime horror series Penny Dreadful. He will also star in the James Franco-directed The Long Home starring Ashton Kutcher and Josh Hutcherson, which is slated for a 2017 release.

Josh Hartnett freezes his butt off for Tucker Tooley’s new flick

Former Relativity president Tucker Tooley is spending this Easter weekend on a mountain in Utah with actor Josh Hartnett.

Tooley is filming his latest project, “6 Below,” about former Boston Bruins hockey draft pick Eric LeMarque, who got stranded snowboarding in a storm and was forced to battle both the elements and drug addiction, and ultimately finds redemption. The movie is made by Tooley Productions.

Tooley tells On the Money, “Josh has really thrown himself into this role. He lost a lot of weight and looks like Eric. He’s doing most of his own stunts and is really freezing his butt off out there.”

As part of the movie, Tooley has joined forces with a special technology firm, Barco. The Belgium-based cinema tech firm has pioneered a new, more immersive movie experience that involves projecting films onto three screens at the front and sides of the theater so that moviegoers get the experience of being in the eye of the storm.

The firm has a two-week exclusive window on the movie before it goes wide. Barco, which counts Jerry Bruckheimer as a board member, also had a deal with 20th Century Fox for the release of the movie “Maze Runner.”
