June 16: Josh Hartnett to spend 30 DAYS OF NIGHT

Variety reports that Josh Hartnett is in talks to star in the film version of Steve Niles' popular graphic novel 30 DAYS OF NIGHT for Columbia Pictures and Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures. Hartnett will play one of the husband-and-wife sheriff duo of Barrow, Alaska, a town that literally goes dark for a month every year and thus becomes prey for vampires. When the undead arrive, the couple have to decide whether to flee or stand and protect their fellow townspeople. Hartnett made his big-screen debut as Jamie Lee Curtis' son in HALLOWEEN: H20 (pictured, with Michelle Williams) and also co-starred in THE FACULTY; he'll be seen this September in Brian De Palma's thriller THE BLACK DAHLIA. David (HARD CANDY) Slade will direct 30 DAYS from a script by Stuart (THE MESSENGERS) Beattie and CANDY's Brian Nelson. Josh Hartnett Toplining 30 Days of Night

Josh Hartnett, who once starred in 40 Days and 40 Nights, is now in final talks to topline 30 Days of Night for Columbia Pictures.

The film is based on the Steve Niles graphic novel, illustrated by Ben Templesmith and published by IDW. David Slade is directing.

Written by Stuart Beattie and Brian Nelson, the story centers on a sleepy, secluded Alaska town called Barrow, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff (Hartnett) and Deputy, a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.

Shooting is set to begin in early August in New Zealand.

Ghost House Pictures' Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are producing, while Grant Curtis is overseeing the production for the Sony-based production company. Mike Richardson, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are executive producing.

Shannon Gaulding and Adam Milano are overseeing for Sony, which will distribute the film in North America and a few international territories. Mandate Pictures will handle the remaining international rights.

Hartnett, who most recently starred in Lucky Number Slevin, is filming Resurrecting the Champ and next appears in The Black Dahlia.

HARTNETT LANDS VAMPIRE HUNTER ROLE

Movie hunk JOSH HARTNETT is the latest big name to play a vampire hunter after signing on to play an Alaskan cop in SAM RAIMI's new action horror movie 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. The PEARL HARBOR star will play part of a husband-and-wife police team who have to chase bloodsuckers out of Alaskan town Barrow, where 30 days of continual winter darkness makes the town a mecca for vampires.

Columbia Pictures захомутала талантливого паренька Джоша Хартнетта в очередную комиксоэкранизацию. Оригиналом послужит графическая книжка Стива Найлса 30 Days of Night.

Сценаристы Стюарт Битти (Цена измены, Соучастник) и Брайан Нельсон (Леденец) будут работать над адаптацией этого комикса. История расскажет о небольшом городке на Аляске, в котором солнце не появляется тридцать дней подряд. Конечно же, этим не смогли не воспользоваться некие тёмные силы, которые вылезают из мрака и устраивают адский террор жителям города. Местная супружеская пара шерифов должна сделать нелёгкий выбор между сохранением собственных жизней и спасением города.

Стража правопорядка мужеского пола будет играть Хартнетт, а вот с супружницей продюсеры пока что не определились. Режиссёром сего триллера станет Дэвид Слейд (Леденец).

Сыграв в молодежной комедии «40 дней, 40 ночей», Джош исполнит главную роль в художественной картине «30 дней тьмы» (30 Days of Night).

Ребята, это не приквел!

А вовсе даже экранизация мрачного комикса Стива Найлса, который ставит режиссер Дейвид Слейд.

Сюжет, обработанный сценаристами Стюартом Битти и Брайаном Нельсоном, повествует о маленьком городке на краю света, конкретно — в Аляске, на который вместе с полярным месяцем обрушивается кровососущее зло. Единственная надежда на выживание напуганным людям видится в шерифе (Харнетт) и его заместителе, муже и жене, которые разрываются перед дилеммой — остаться в живых или спасти любимый город?

Съемки фильма начнутся в августе.
